Skiing and snowboarding in Bansko, Pamporovo and Borovets
Bansko offers perfect conditions for skiing, snowboarding and mountain trips. For your comfort the resort offers an 8-man Gondola cable car by Doppelmayr, five 4-seats lifts of the latest Doppelmayr models, one 3-seats lift by Poma, 6 drags and 10 baby drags. All the lift and drag facilities are working and at your disposal. The easy access to all lifts is secured by chip-cards. The total capacity of the ski lifts is 10 000 persons per hour. The conditions for making artificial snow coverage are perfect, which means that the Bansko Snow Factory has all its 70 snow cannons lined-up blasting snow at full capacity.
The resort provides marked ski runs with total length of 65 km. The altitude of the highest ski run is 2600m and of the lowest one is 990m. There are ski runs suitable for everyone – beginners, intermediates or experts.
One of the biggest advantages of the ski resort of Bankso is the unique 16-kilometers uninterrupted ski run, starting from Todorka Peak (2600m) which is the highest point of the ski centre, all the way to the base station of Gondola lift at the outskirts of the town. The last 7 km of the slope are lighted and the entire facility is equipped with artificial snow machines to ensure a great skiing experience even in warmer conditions.
Pamporovo also offers very good conditions for skiing and snowboarding. The facilities working on the runs network of the holiday resort Pamporovo are with capacity of 8 600 people per hour. There are nine ski drags, as well as nine lifts /chairlifts/, which allow the fast and comfortable movement of the skiers. The new four-seat chairlift of the Doppelmayer company –Austria is with capacity of 2 000 people per hour -79 chairs of 4 seats each, with length of 734 meters.
The total length of the marked ski runs is 31 km. The altitude of the highest ski run is 1973m.
The ski runs are suitable not only for the skiers, but for those who are keen on snowboarding. As the snowboarding is the fastest growing sport in the world, the winter resort provides competitive conditions for practicing this sport.
A completely automatic snowmaking system of the Austrian company ‘Sufag’ is installed with total length of snow covering 2 134 m. It creates conditions for use of the runs from the end of November until the end of April.
This is not the one and only beneficial effect from the artificial snow. Not only the artificial snow prolongs the snow melting time with about a month, but is also protects the ski runs from erosion, as the snow melts at a slower pace and no waters run down the slopes.
The oldest resort in Bulgaria, which has 90-year long history, is Borovets. The resort provides excellent opportunities for whole range of winter sports as alpine sports, cross-country skiing, ski-jumps and biathlon on its first-class ski slopes, tracks and facilities.
The ski runs of Borovets are located in three different regions. The first regions contains of 8 ski runs which are medium difficult are difficult. The total length of these ski runs is 19 km. The second region includes 3 ski runs, with a total length of 13 km. The third region which is the highest one in the mountain at 2550m above sea level provides 4 ski runs. One of those has been approved by the International skiing Federation for giant slalom competitions.
For your convenience you can use 1 six-seat Gondola lift, 2 High Speed Quad Chair lifts, 1 Fixed Grip Quad Chair lift, 10 Surface ski lifts, few baby drag lifts.
19 ski runs with total length of 58 km provide perfect skiing conditions for all tourists from December util late April. All tracks are divided according to their level of difficulty and they can satisfy any skill level - beginners, intermediate or advanced skiers.
One of the newest facilities is one 200-meter carpet lift. Also the widened Musala Pathway is fully completed. This is 10-km ski path which is the easiest way down to the center of Borovets.
